The job

To drive continuous improvement within the Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) team and company and set standards across the Speller Metcalfe Group, enhancing the organisation’s reputation for innovation and excellence in construction. To reduce risk to the organisation, general public and subcontract workforce through raising supporting management of SHEQ items by audit and project support.

To support the SHEQ initiatives of the Speller Metcalfe Group; applying environmental standards and means of confirming quality and reporting, as remit requires

Primary duties:

  • Auditing of SHE standards and compliant working practices across live projects.
  • Act as a SHEQ Advisor for the safe completion of live construction projects.
  • Support internal training courses, e.g. asbestos awareness as may be confirmed.
  • Keep up-to-date with health, safety & environmental legislation and maintain current standards accordingly for Speller Metcalfe to demonstrate compliance.
  • Accident investigation across all live projects and production of initial report with full detail.
  • Development of new toolbox talks, “Red Top Alert and Blue Top” best practice information sheets and liaise with stakeholders.

Secondary responsibilities:

  • Report to directors on a monthly basis when required.
  • Liaison with HSE, EA, LA and insurance brokers to relay incident details when applicable after discussion with Senior H&S Manager and or EHS & Ops Manager with reference to directors’ advice.
  • Maintain accident/incident and near miss details for calculation of AIR and AFR information.
  • Support the bid team regarding SHEQ questions.
  • Support company social value needs.
  • Liaison with subcontractors following poor performance.
  • Compilation of information for CHAS, and other 3rd party accreditation organisations.
  • Crisis management.
  • Support in development of project specific SHEQ documents such as CEMPs, CPHSPs and fire plans.

 

Who are we looking for?

To be successful in this role you will bring your enthusiasm and determination as well as:

Training and experience

  • Preferably at least 5 years of experience in a comparable SHEQ role
  • Preferably at least 10 years of experience in the construction industry
  • Recognised Safety and / or Environmental higher training such as a related degree or NEBOSH certification / diploma
