Quantity Surveyor

Job title and location:
Quantity Surveyor (Midlands – Wolverhampton office)

 

Reporting to:
Divisional Commercial Lead

 

Key responsibilities (including but not limited to):

The Quantity Surveyor role will commercially manage projects as designated within our Construction division, to ensure they are procured and delivered to required outcomes. Duties include:

 

  • Liaising with the team to support the placing of robust subcontractor trade orders in a timely manner and that the main contract risks are passed on;
  • Provide support to preconstruction where necessary including feedback from live projects;
  • To ensure that the company’s procedures and documentation are being adhered to;
  • Lead in the preparation of the PEP and continual review of the document;
  • Ensure all subcontractor payments are made in a timely manner and in accordance with order agreements and the Construction Act;
  • Ensure all notices to subcontractors are issued in the required time frames;
  • Prepare cost value reports and cost forecasts for monthly review with the commercial manager and leadership teams;
  • Manage the production of accurate and timely project financial forecasts;
  • Maintain a positive project cashflow;
  • Monitor and evaluate the value of works packages through physical re-measure of works carried out on site, notifying any potential issues to the commercial lead;
  • Manage and minimise non-recoverable costs on a project;
  • Review and ensure all contract final accounts are submitted and agreed in a timely manner;
  • Ensure that all contractual correspondence is produced in an acceptable format and in a timely manner;
  • Close liaison with the client and client’s cost control representative to provide proactive advice on project costs;
  • Ensure all valuations are submitted and received in accordance with agreed valuation schedules;
  • Mentor and train assistant and trainee surveyors;
  • Proactively contribute to the project team;
  • Identify disputes in a timely manner to the divisional commercial lead;
  • Take part in H&S initiatives;
  • Perform other duties from time to time, outside the normal sphere of work as may reasonably be requested.

 

To hit the ground running you’ll need:

  • Commercially driven;
  • Ability to work as part of a team;
  • Confidence and ability to communicate;
  • Ability to mediate conflicting points of view;
  • Good understanding of construction contracts and construction law;
  • Good technical knowledge of construction;
  • Awareness of health safety and environmental issues.
